2024 Geography Awareness Week Geovisualization Competition

 2024 GAW Geovisualization Competition

The primary theme of the 2024 Geography Awareness Week Geovisualization Competition is to highlight the practical aspects of geography as a discipline worth pursuing. The competition should inspire and motivate by shedding light on the diverse job prospects available after graduation with a degree in geography and its subfields, including, but not limited to, GIS, remote sensing, physical, economic, and human geography.

SHOW US HOW GEOGRAPHY IS YOUR PASSPORT TO A GLOBAL CAREER!

ENTER COMPETITION

General Criteria

This competition is open to all who have a passion for geography. You're welcome to enter whether you're a current undergraduate or graduate student, a geography alumnus, or an alumnus of other disciplines whose job is related to geography. We value your unique perspectives and experiences.

As part of the MSU community, students and alumni will showcase their original work. Your entries must use only the visuals you have created. Only digital entries are accepted and must be high-resolution (300 dpi) and suitable for printing (PDF or JPG files are preferred). The overall dimensions of your submission should be no larger than 17”x44”. The use of text should be minimal. The first and second winners and honorable mentions will be printed and exhibited in the Geography Department (673 Auditorium Rd, East Lansing, MI 48824) during Geography Awareness Week, which will be held from November 18 to 22, 2024, and distributed through other venues including the department website and social media channels.

It's crucial to be mindful of the fair treatment of underrepresented groups and to avoid prejudiced language. When using photographs with people, ensure people are not in vulnerable or degrading positions. Entries featuring children require parental consent.

Other requirements include your name, affiliation, title, and publication date.

Judging Criteria

The panel of judges is made up of geography faculty and staff. Entries will be judged using rubrics that reflect the relevance to the topic, creativity, the visual-to-text ratio, artistic expressiveness (balance of text, graphics, color), the content's uniqueness, and the infographics' overall quality. Prizes will be awarded.

Copyright Policy

The entrant retains all rights, including copyright rights, of the infographics. By submitting an entry to the competition, the entrant grants Michigan State University non-exclusive rights for royalty-free use, including creating and using derivative works in displays, print, and digital publications. The entrant will be credited in displays and publications as appropriate.

We recognize the value of your contributions and look forward to seeing your work.
