GAW 2023 The Power of Place

The Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences is excited about our annual celebration of Geography Awareness Week. Established by a presidential proclamation more than 35 years ago, Geography Awareness Week is celebrated each third week of November. This public awareness program encourages citizens, young and old, to think and learn about the significance of place and how we affect and are affected by it. Check back often for updates and plan to join us for a variety of activities taking place across campus from November 13-17!


Monday | November 13 @3 PM | Pack the Porch for the 2023 MSU GEO Family Photo

Join us as we kick off Geography Awareness Week by packing the porch of the Geography Building for our 2023 MSU GEO Family Photo! We will gather in front of the GEO Building for the photo, followed by baked goods, beverages, and some friendly geography-focused banter in the GEO Lounge. All students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and supporters of MSU Geography are welcome! If you have an MSU GEO t-shirt, please be sure to wear it and show your Spartan Geography pride! Tuesday | November 14, 12-2 PM | Spotlighting Geography @ MSU

Stop by the MSU Union and help us celebrate Geography Awareness Week. Members of the MSU Geography Graduate Group (Triple G) will be on hand to shine a spotlight on Geography and the MSU Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences.


Tuesday | November 14, 5-9 PM | Triple G Trivia Night

Join the Geography Graduate Group (Triple G) for an evening of geography-related trivia, a 50/50 raffle, and other festivities in honor of Geography Awareness Week! This event will take place at HopCat in downtown East Lansing. The time is TBD. Please check back soon for more details.

Save the date and plan to join the MSU Geography Club as they celebrate Geography Awareness Week with a fun and challenging Geography Trivia Scavenger Hunt on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Geography Building. More details...


Wednesday | November 15 | MSU GIS Day

The MSU GIS Day Conference is an all-day event held in the MSU Main Library on November 15th hosted by the MSUGIS Users Group.
