Interested in Studying Social Science in Rome? Apply for the Summer 2022 MSU Education Aboard Program

September 27, 2021

Rome is the “Eternal City,” a magic place to which historically, all roads led. She gave birth to many of our social and civic values, has been a center of the arts, and is a focus of the Christian faith.

The visiting student will be able to see how three epochs – the ancient, the Renaissance, and the modern—are juxtaposed to give Rome its intriguing and effervescent character. Rome is a unique metropolis that has successfully restored and adapted its ancient and priceless architecture and art to the rigorous demands of a modern culture while maintaining a warm, exhilarating, and friendly downtown environment of piazzas, boutiques, and pizzerias. The visitor feels instantly mesmerized and embraced.

Students may combine Integrative Studies in Social Science (ISS) with courses in Geography. A major focus of the coursework is on how contemporary globalization and international relations respond to new challenges from postmodern social and political dynamics and technological changes. Individualized projects may include fieldwork, term papers, and class presentations. Guest speakers from Italian universities, institutes, and appropriate state agencies will be invited to lecture on the historical and contemporary aspects of the European Union and the geopolitical context within which western powers operate.

The 2022 Social Science in Rome Summer Semester will take place from June 4, 2022, to July 2, 2022. Apply by March 1, 2022.
