Guo Chen, associate professor of Geography and Global Urban Studies at MSU, recently authored the first in a new section of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Newsletter called Perspectives. The column aims to offer a platform for AAG members to discuss issues of relevance to geography.
Chen’s op-ed is entitled “Working Together for Racial and Social Justice: From Anti-Asian Racism and Violence to Anti-Racist Praxis in Geography,” and is available here. The article also shares resource links from panels organized by Chen and her prior work with AAG specialty groups and members.
The American Association of Geographers is a nonprofit scientific and educational society founded in 1904. For more than 100 years, the AAG has contributed to the advancement of geography. Its members from nearly 100 countries share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography, which they cultivate through the AAG’s Annual Meeting, scholarly journals. The AAG promotes discussion among its members and with scholars in related fields, in part through the activities of its affinity groups and more than 60 specialty groups. Chen received an Outstanding Service Award from the China Geography Specialty Group of the AAG in 2020.
