Research synopsis
My research examines how place, demographic and socioeconomic conditions, and environmental exposures shape drinking water quality and public health. Drawing from Health and Medical Geography, Urban and Economic Geography, GIScience, Environmental Health, Public Health, and Epidemiology, I study spatial patterns of drinking water contamination and the adverse health effects experienced by communities disproportionately affected by unequal environmental conditions. I am particularly interested in chemical contaminants, including heavy metals, as well as the broader social and economic burdens households experience when water is unsafe, unreliable, or mistrusted. Through spatial analysis, exposure assessment, and community-engaged research, my work seeks to better understand where drinking water inequities occur, why they persist, and how research can inform more equitable drinking water and public health policies.
