RESEARCH SYNOPSIS

I am Yousef Khajavigodellou, Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Global Change and Earth Observations (CGCEO), Michigan State University. I earned my bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Kurdistan, Sanandaj, Iran. undergraduate education at the University of Kurdistan has provided me with a comprehensive and robust background about the interaction between people and the environment, significantly impacting Land Use Land Cover Changes. In my thesis in Master's degree, "Modeling Urban Development Using Fuzzy Cellular Automata," I used GIS / RS science and technology for recently rapid urban growth and proper planning to avoid environmental disasters and effects of social-economical factors. Because modeling environmental changes and planning land Use/Cover Changes are efficient tools to support sustainable development in urban areas. Water, food, and energy crises frequently hit the world. A population of over 7 billion in the 21st century has a high potential to create a large-scale conflict worldwide to contribute to the high-volume refugee and humanitarian crisis. Moreover, based on previous studies, the condition for the competition is expected to worsen and become more critical, resulting from the increasing impacts of climate change (droughts), human activities, and regional geopolitics. As the primary source of conflict over water resources worldwide, especially in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Jordan River Basin, the Tigris-Euphrates River Basin, and the Nile River Basin face extensive water management, quality challenges, and land degradation. The research core goal is to understand an Optimized Regional-based Intelligent Management System (ORIMS) based on AI and Machin Learning algorithms related to these areas.
