BIOGRAPHY

Eva Kassens-Noor is an associate professor of urban and transport planning in SPDC, holding a joint appointment with the Global Urban Studies Program (GUSP). She is also an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences.  She received her Diplom-Ingenieur (equivalent to a BA and 1 year MS) in Business Engineering at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) in Germany, her MST (Master of Science in Transportation) from the Civil and Engineering Department at MIT, and her Ph.D. from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT. She was born in Germany and has lived in Sydney, London, Barcelona, Lausanne, Athens, and Boston. In her professional engagements, Eva has consulted for the Athens Airport Authority (2004, Summer Olympics), Vancouver Airport Authority (2010, Winter Olympics), and the Holy Mecca (2009, Pilgrimage Planning). Her research interests center around sustainability; from community planning to large scale urban planning projects. Her current work focuses on large scale urban planning projects cities undertake to prepare for rising sea levels and on transport planning for passenger peak demands occurring during festivals, pilgrimages, and evacuations.

Transport planning, urban planning and policy, international planning, disaster prevention, emergency preparedness, land use planning and policy, recreation and leisure studies, regional planning, and transportation safety.
