Urban Economics, Urban Vitality and Affordable Housing
RESEARCH SYNOPSIS
Sahel is interested in researching urban vitality and social cohesion in rapidly growing cities in the Middle East and Africa. Her research explores how the framework of sustainable development could be compromised by the influence of neoliberal policies on re-forming cities, especially in the housing sector. Sahel’s research questions the sustainability of the mass apartment housing construction at the periphery of the cities as opposed to upgrading organically developed neighborhoods in urban contexts.
