I am currently working as a GIS technician at Western Land Services in Ludington, MI. Western Land Services is an oil and gas brokerage company that is involved in oil and gas plays in several states.  My job requires me to use my GIS skills to map mineral rights leases that are used to compile a master leasehold database.  Using county tax parcel data sets, I map property being leased by energy companies that access mineral assets beneath the surface.  My company consists of landmen (individuals that distribute leases to prospective lessors), lease processors, title researchers, and GIS staff.  My company employs about 15 GIS staff at our Ludington office.  We use ESRI software for all of our GIS activities.
