onGEO Celebrates 20 Years of Online Geography Courses This Summer!

The summer of 1999 marked the beginning of the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences’ Online Geography program with the launch of our first ever online course: Dr. Alan Arbogast’s Physical Geography (GEO206-v). The instructor for that course was MSU-GEO alum Paul Rindfleisch, who was charged with the instruction of an inaugural class of 63 students! This began a wave of development of fully online courses offered by the department and the creation of what we today call onGEO.

To date, more than 26,000 students have taken an online undergraduate or graduate course with onGEO and more than 100 graduate students have been trained as online instructors. One of the goals of onGEO is to educate students around the world and that has propelled our Department into places and spaces we may have never thought possible. Now with 20 years of experience in online teaching and learning under our belt, we hope to continue reaching students far and wide for decades to come Our summer onGEO courses are now available for enrollment!
