GEO Ph.D. Student Named Interim Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

Veda HawkinsCongratulations to Veda Hawkins on being named the Interim Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in the College of Social Science at Michigan State University. Veda transitions to the position with years of experience as Assistant Director in Student Affairs. Before joining Student Affairs, she worked as an Academic Specialist in the Center for Integrative Studies in Social Science. She has also worked as a Career Developer for Michigan Works and was an Administrator and Academic Advisor at the Women’s Resource Center, both at Lansing Community College. In addition, Veda is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Science. Her work in Student Affairs has informed her Ph.D. research, which examines barriers, including a sense of belonging, in the retention and graduation rates of Black students. Well done, Veda!
